Avocado Sauce

I love taquitos! I have been eating taquitos since I can remember. My Dad used to bring me home a pair of the deep fried rolled tortilla with a slice of beef lunch meat rolled inside (at least that is what it looked like...) from Candlewood Burgers every time he went there. I'm not sure if it was that my Dad would surprise me with them or the yummy green "avocado sauce" in the little plastic cup with the lid, that my Mom let me keep, that I dipped them in that made me love them SO much? As I got older I would pick this meal on my own, but I would eat TWO orders, that's FOUR taquitos and TWO little cups of "avocado sauce"! I ate taquitos everywhere they were available! Little League games served them in the snack shack. Marquees made a package of 6 frozen taquitos that came with the green "avocado sauce" in a plastic packet I had to defrost under hot water while my taquitos cooked. In Jr High I ate them at Gus' Burgers on the way home from school but would order extra "avocado sauce" to also dip my french fries in. When I moved out on my own for the first time I ate them at Volcano Burgers in Los Alamitos.

In the last 15 years or so I have noticed that the "avocado sauce" has changed quite a bit. Candlewood & Gus' Burgers are gone now, so I stop by other burger places like them to order my taquitos but the sauce is never what it used to be like. Even the sauce that used to come with the Marquee's taquitos changed to real "guacamole". I started eating taquitos with just sour cream or salsa, but it is not as good as the yummy green "avocado sauce". The good news is I have found an even BETTER version of that yummy green "avocado sauce" at Trader Joe's, and it even comes in a SUPER SIZE version of the little cup with the lid I liked so much!!! If you are at all interested, go to your local Trader Joe's and pick up a container of their Avocado Salsa Verde.

Thank you for the info about Trader Joe's taquito sauce. Marquee was the best, and it was similar to the sauce the beach joints used to serve too. Nothing else is quite the same. Thank you!
